International transport – changes you should be aware of
New EU regulations in transport
This autumn has brought many new developments in international transport. The European Union has refined several regulations to make cross-border freight transport more transparent and predictable. The new rules directly affect route planning, meeting deadlines, transport prices and administrative paperwork.
What rules are coming into force, and what should you pay attention to now?
The most noticeable change concerns truck equipment. From July 2026, the EU will require vehicles engaged in international transport to be equipped with modern tachographs that automatically record data. This means that vehicles over 2.5 tonnes will also be required to use these devices. Tachographs will record border crossings and loading activities, making inspections faster and more transparent.
Several member states have also changed their weekend traffic restrictions. On certain road sections, stricter time windows must be expected, which may also influence the best time to dispatch a shipment. Additionally, the permit process for overweight cargo has changed, as transport is not only about knowing the route — if the load is larger or heavier than standard, a special permit may be required.
